Brian Mendoza is finally set to fight.

The 27-year-old Las Vegas based fighter was scheduled to face Julian Williams on the Gervonta Davis-Mario Barrios pay-per-view undercard in June hit the bout was canceled when Williams suffered an elbow injury late in his training camp.

Mendoza (19-1) will now face fast rising prospect Jesus Ramos (16-0) later tonight. The fight takes place at The armory in Minneapolis and will serve as the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions on FOX broadcast.

The 20-year-old Ramos has fought as light as a junior welterweight and has fought most of his brief career at or around the welterweight limit. Mendoza, who campaigns as a junior middleweight, stated that this fight will take place at a 155 pound catchweight which should be an advantage for him.

Ramos will enter the fight as a sizable favorite but that doesn’t faze Mendoza who is of Cuban descent. He plans on putting one for the best performances of his career and leaving the ring victorious.

“I’m excited for this fight. It’s not the big name I was looking for but it’s still against a solid undefeated fighter coming up so it’s a great opportunity to show the world what I’ve been working on and you can expect fireworks with my hand being raised in the end,” Mendoza told BoxingScene.com.

Mendoza last fought 12 months ago when he defeated Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna by unanimous decision. In his prior fight he suffered his only career loss, a split decision loss to Larry Gomez.

Arizona’s Ramos has already fought twice this year, beating Oscar Molina by unanimous decision in May and stopping Jesus Emilio Bojorquez in February.

Ramos is the nephew of hard hitting welterweight contender Abel Ramos.
