Armory, Minneapolis - In a showdown for the WBC's interim-middleweight title, Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KOs) secured a stoppage win over former unified champion Julian Williams (28-4-1, 16 KOs) in the ninth round.

It was a tough fight, with Adames coming close to stopping Williams in the fourth round, but the ex-champion was able to survive the incoming onslaught of heavy punches.

Williams had moments of his own when the two boxers would exchange shots.

The end came in the ninth round, when Adames hurt Williams and began to once again unload with hard combinations.

Williams, while hurt, was still doing good defense and was throwing a punch as the referee jumped in-between both boxers and waved off the fight.

Once the fight concluded, Williams' head trainer, Stephen 'Breadman' Edwards, erupted over the stoppage. He verbally called out the referee and gave his take on the referee's decision to stop the fight.

“[The referee] couldn’t say nothing to me. I told him it was a was a typical A-side stoppage. It was a good fight. He was hurt and I’m not saying he wasn’t hurt, but a fight like this, a man not going down, they going back and forth. If he’s the killer that they say he is let him finish him. He was tired too. But it’s always predictable, it’s always the A-side that gets the same sh!t," Breadman said.

"[Williams] may not even have no more fights. At least let the fight go. [Williams] was down one time in the fight. [Adames] is supposed to be the most feared man in boxing, he never went down. Let him finish him if he’s going to finish him.”
