WASHINGTON – Brandun Lee methodically dismantled Diego Luque on Saturday night.

The hard-hitting junior welterweight contender stopped his overmatched opponent in the fourth round of a fight that was scheduled for eight rounds on the Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia undercard at Capital One Arena. The 23-year-old Lee didn’t drop the Argentinean veteran, but referee Kenny Bayless halted the action at 2:55 of the fourth round because Luque took numerous unanswered punches that prompted his trainer to throw in the towel.

Lee, of La Quinta, California, remained unbeaten (27-0, 23 KOs) and produced an expected knockout after going the 10-round distance in his previous appearance.

Lee got off the canvas from a surprising third-round knockdown to defeat Will Madera in that August 20 bout in Hollywood, Florida. The heavily favored Lee beat Madera (17-2-3, 10 KOs), of Albany, New York, by the same score, 98-91, on each card in a 10-rounder Showtime aired from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Lee largely took a patient approach against the 37-year-old Luque (21-11-2, 10 KOs), who is 0-7-1 in his past eight fights, including three technical-knockout defeats. Due in large part to Luque’s recent record, DraftKings sportsbook listed Lee as an 80-1 favorite.

Lee unloaded a barrage of right hands as the final seconds of the fourth round wound down. Eventually, Luque’s trainer had seen enough and threw in the towel.

Lee nailed Luque with a right hand that knocked him into the ropes with barely 10 seconds remaining in the third round. Lee tried to capitalize on that momentum, but he ran out of time in that round.

A right hand by Lee wobbled Luque with just under 1:15 to go in the second round, but he otherwise didn’t seem to affect Luque with his punches in the first or second rounds.
