Brandon Glanton punched his way back into the win column.

The once-feared cruiserweight contender snapped a two-fight losing streak with a third-round knockout of Carlos Fromenta. Glanton floored the Cuban boxer twice en route to a stoppage at 2:14 of round three in their ProBox main event Wednesday evening at Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

The scheduled ten-round bout saw Fromenta jump out to a solid start in his first significant step up in class. It didn’t take long for Glanton to adjust and take over the fight, at which point Fromenta all but gave up on fighting back.

Glanton hurt Fromenta late in round two, first with body shots and then brought the attack upstairs to force his opponent to the canvas. He brought the pain throughout round three as he slowly broke down his foe.

Fromenta literally turned his back on Glanton after taking a right hand behind the ear late in round three. The action should have forced an immediate stoppage but action continued just long enough for Glanton to land two more left hooks along the ropes. Fromenta fell to the canvas before he made his way to the feet. His back was turned to the referee during the entire eight count, which forced the end of the fight.

The defeat snapped a twelve-fight win streak for Fromenta (12-2, 7KOs), who lost his pro debut before the career revival.

Glanton’s career went the opposite way as he stormed out to 17-0 before he suffered back-to-back defeats to New Zealand’s David Light last December and three-fight pro Soslan Asbarov this past March in Dubai. Wednesday’s win sends Glanton’s record to 18-2 (13KOs) and with renewed hopes of one day challenging for a cruiserweight title.

Such an opportunity was in reach this time last year. Glanton was poised to face then-WBO cruiserweight titlist Lawrence Okolie, only to suffer a ten-round points loss to Light. He has since expressed interest in pursuing a path to lead to current WBO titleholder Chris Billam-Smith (18-1, 12KOs), who outpointed Okolie this past May.
