Brandon Figueroa will unfortunately receive a court date before his next fight date.

The former junior featherweight titlist was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated over the weekend. Hidalgo County jail records show that Figueroa was arrested overnight on Sunday, October 2 in his Weslaco, Texas hometown, after a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) test showed his level at 0.15%, nearly double above the 0.08% state limit.

Figueroa was released on Sunday after posting a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

Further details including when Figueroa is due to next appear in court were not made available as this goes to publish. Figueroa fights for Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), whose policy precludes company representatives from commenting on legal matters.

The alleged incident is the first real trouble experienced by the youngest member of the Figueroa fighting family. He was previously arrested for criminal trespassing—a Class A misdemeanor—in a May 2016 arrest, though the case was dismissed in January 2017 due to no damage to the property on which he was accused of trespassing.

Omar Figueroa, Brandon’s older brother, has been arrested on three separate drinking-and-driving related incidents. The last came in 2018 in Riverside County, California, while training for a then-scheduled April 2018 bout with Adrien Broner which never saw the light of day.

The younger Figueroa (23-1-1, 18KOs) last fought in a sixth-round stoppage of Carlos Castro on July 9 in San Antonio, Texas. The bout was his first since dropping a disputed majority decision to Stephen Fulton in their sensational WBC/WBO junior featherweight unification bout last November 27 in Las Vegas. The defeat ended Figueroa’s WBC title reign after claiming the belt in a seventh-round knockout of then-unbeaten titlist Luis Nery last May 15 in Carson, California.

Figueroa previously held a secondary version of the WBA junior featherweight title, though forced to relinquish upon entering his unification bout with Fulton. The sanctioning body allowed him to retain the title following his win over Nery but changed its stance upon its ongoing title reduction campaign.

Plans for Figueroa’s next fight have not yet been revealed, a recurring theme among a currently very thin PBC schedule.
