Janelson Bocachica backed up some of his tough talk Wednesday night.

The brash welterweight prospect from Detroit didn’t even need a full round to knock out an opponent that was supposed to test him at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Bocachica (16-0, 11 KOs) dropped Puerto Rico’s Nicklaus Flaz (9-1, 7 KOs) three times and knocked him out 2:43 into their scheduled eight-round, 147-pound fight.

The 24-year-old Flaz (9-2, 7 KOs) lost by knockout for the first time since he turned pro in October 2015.

Showtime televised Bocachica’s victory as part of its “ShoBox: The New Generation” series.

A crushing left hook by Bocachica knocked Flaz flat on his back just 29 seconds into their fight. That marked the first time in his career that Flaz went down.

Though buzzed, Flaz got up and tried trading with Bocachica, who hit him with two right hands to the side of head about 15 seconds after the halfway point of the opening round. Then Bocachica blasted Flaz with a left hook that sent Flaz to the seat of his trunks with 49 seconds remaining in the first round.

Flaz bravely got up a second time and continued. Bocachica knocked him down a third time, with a left-right combination that sent Flaz to his knees. Referee Johnny Callas stopped their one-sided fight as soon as Flaz went down for the third time.
