Lenier Pero (9-0) delivered an explosive performance as promised.

The 30-year-old southpaw stopped Viktor Faust in the 8th round of their back and forth affair Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio that kicked off a Showtime televised tripleheader.

A body shot badly hurt the previously unbeaten Faust and a combination to the head prompted the referee to stop the fight with Faust unable to defend himself.

Pero, who is ranked #6 by the WBA in the heavyweight division, hopes to fight for a world title in the near future.

“I’m ready for all of these guys. Line them up and we will take them out,” Pero told BoxingScene.com. “Faust was a tough guy. He took a lot of big punches but I noticed his power was fading and we slowed him down with the body shots.”

The Cuban’s trainer Bob Santos also believes the sky is the limit for his pupil.

“Pero will be a champion very soon. He is ready for anyone in the top 15 and will deliver an even more explosive performance,” Santos stated.

Santos was a busy man Saturday night. He also worked the corner of Pero’s younger brother Dainier, who improved to 3-0 with a unanimous decision victory on the undercard - and in the Showtime televised co-feature bout, Mario Barrios impressed with a knockout win over Jovanie Santiago.

In the main event O’Shaquie Foster captured the vacant WBC super featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory over two-division champion Rey Vargas.
