Earlier today ESPN.com stated that Shannon Briggs failed a random urine test for dramatically elevated levels of testosterone. The 45-year-old Briggs and the 44-year-old Oquendo have been tested regularly by VADA, the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, for their WBA heavyweight championship match.

The bout is scheduled for June 3rd at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, but the ill-conceived contest could be canceled due to Briggs’ positive PED test result.

Heavyweight contender BJ Flores (33-3-1) was already scheduled to appear on the undercard and said there is no need to cancel the card and that he is ready to face Oquendo on short notice.

"Two weeks isn't a problem. I would love to step in and face Fres Oquendo. I am looking for big opportunities," Flores told BoxingScene.com.

Flores, who is ranked #11 by the WBA, last fought in February when he moved up from the cruiserweight division and blasted out veteran Jeremy Bates in the first round of their sold out fight at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.

Originally from Puerto Rico and fighting out of Chicago throughout his pro career, Oquendo (37-8, 24 KOs) was looking to capitalize on his fourth opportunity to capture a world title. The slick-boxer has faced a slew of top heavyweights throughout his career, including narrow decision losses to Evander Holyfield and James Toney, plus title challenges of Chris Byrd and John Ruiz. The 44-year-old owns recent victories over Derric Rossy and Joey Abell in addition to triumphs over Clifford Etienne, David Izon and Javier Mora.

Due to injuries and other factors, Oquendo has been out of the ring since July of 2014, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Ruslan Chagaev, in a bout for the vacant WBA title.
