In addition to his sheer will and determination, Vasiliy Lomachenko has honed his craft over the course of approximately two decades. As a result, the Ukrainian native has stockpiled boatloads of achievements. In total, the now 34-year-old has aggregated an amateur record of 396 victories against only one defeat, pilfered numerous world titles in the professional ranks, and consistently finds himself mentioned amongst the boxing world’s elite.

Though his career would take an unexpected turn, the former two-time Olympic gold medalist recently returned from his stint in the ongoing Russian invasion in his native land of Ukraine. Greeting him at the pugilistic door, was highly ranked contender, Jamaine Ortiz. With the two officially swapping fists just a few short weeks ago, both Bill and Devin Haney observed closely from their ringside seats.

While he was expected to run through his man, Ortiz proved to be far more difficult than many were expecting. Still, even with his resistance, the Ukrainian star’s bemusing offensive puzzle and willingness to push the pace in the second half, led to yet another victory in his star-studded career.

Having fought past his battle-tested foe, Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) will now attempt to hammer out a deal that would see him take on Devin Haney for all of the lightweight marbles. The rambunctious 23-year-old, of course, rose to the occasion on two separate occasions against George Kambosos Jr.

Bill, both the father and trainer of Devin, long before his son would go on to become an undisputed champion, has yelled from the mountaintops that his offspring is a force to be reckoned with.

As a showdown against Lomachenko now looms, Bill admits that the Ukrainian star is something to behold. However, Bill is steadfast in his belief that his son is simply cut from a different cloth.

“This is a fight that we know that the people want,” said Bill to FightHype.com. “Lomachenko has been built up to be something special. It’s not anything personal but we believe that Devin is something special.”
