From the moment Devin Haney picked up his first pair of boxing gloves nearly two decades ago, Bill Haney, Devin’s father and trainer, believed that his son would leave an indelible mark before it was all set and done. While the 23-year-old is still in the infancy stages of his career, he continues to prove his father right.

On June 5th, at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, Haney would become the youngest undisputed world champion in the four-belt era, doing so against George Kambosos Jr.

Undeterred in Kambosos’s decision to enact his immediate rematch clause, Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) issued another one-sided beating to his fringe rival, winning a lopsided decision this past weekend. Considering his trajectory and insatiable desire to improve, Bill is firmly of the belief that his son could become one of the best fighters the sport of boxing has ever seen.

“He's one of the greats in the making," said Bill to K.O. Artists Sports. "As time goes on and he has more stages to grace and more great opponents to face, the world will see just how talented he is.”

Next up for the audacious Haney, could be a mega showdown against Ukraine’s Vasiliy Lomachenko. First things first, however, the former two-time Olympic gold medalist will look to make quick work of upcoming foe, Jamaine Ortiz.

In addition to Lomachenko, the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, and a long list of other top contenders, are foaming at the mouth as they patiently wait their turn. Nevertheless, Bill, much like his son, is unconcerned with which name is ultimately slid across their desk. As he now pounders on what his son has been able to accomplish, Bill pauses for a moment while reflecting on the love affair between his young boy and the pugilistic sport.

“It’s almost like boxing and Devin were made for each other.”
