Former two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto says the legacy of Floyd Mayweather Jr. will always fall under question with the fans - because he usually played it safe even when the opponent was severely overmatched.

Because he played it safe and relied on his defense and quick reflexes to stay away from trouble, only two of his victories since 2006 were inside the distance.

Mayweather announced his retirement following his twelve round decision win over Berto on September 12th in Las Vegas.

"I think when it comes to his legacy, people are always going to question it to a point.....juts because you see guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, you see guys like even Sugar Ray Leonard. Sugar Ray Leonard had that dog about him. He can box your ass off, but if you're not supposed to be in the ring with him - like people may say, whoever it may be - he would take you up out of there," Berto told Power 105.

"Floyd is the type of guy that [thinks] - 'even if you're not supposed to be in here with me, I'm chillin and gettin this check.' That's the only thing. I think that's just the only problem."

Mayweather calls himself 'TBE' [The Best Ever], but Berto says the fans are going to view him in a different light.

"If he wants to say that he's the best ever, because of his record and his pay-per-view buys - that's cool, but like I said when it comes to pure boxing fans or fans in general, they are going to have a different perspective on that," Berto said.
