BoxingScene.com recently caught up with WBC super featherweight champion Miguel "El Alacran" Berchelt (33-1) who returns to the ring on June 23rd against former champion Jonathan Barros (41-5-1).

The action takes place in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and will be televised in México on Azteca and in the United States on the ESPN+ App.

This will be Berchelt's third defense of the title he won against Francisco Vargas in January, 2018. He last fought in February when he blew out Maxwell Awuku in three rounds.

The 26-year-old Mexico native is very interested in unifying titles but made it clear that after Barros he needs to take care of his mandatory challenger.

Roman himself has a stay busy fight coming up, and the event is actually taking on the same day as Berchelt's return, June 23. Roman will go up against undefeated contender Michel Marcano (16-0) in Juarez, Mexico.

"Yes I want to fight the other champions but my priority is Mickey Román because he is my mandatory.  Once I get through that fight we can talk about unification," Berchelt told BoxingScene.com.

The other 130 pound champions include WBA "super" champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis and WBA "regular" champion Alberto Machado.  The IBF title is vacant and Christopher Díaz and Masayuki Ito will fight each other for the vacant WBO title on July 28th.

Berchelt is a young champion but is very interested in facing the best possible opponents. At this point in his career he wants the greatest challenges available for the biggest money.

"We will see who is available later but all they have to do is make me a good offer and I will fight any of the champion.  I think the best purse will be against Gervonta but let's see what happens," said Berchelt.
