Mexican super featherweight contender Miguel Berchelt (27-1, 24KOs) has landed a world title opportunity in the near future.

The World Boxing Organization has approved a trilogy fight between WBO super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (29-2-3, 17KOs) and former beltholder Orlando Salido (43-13-3, 29KOs).

Salido lost a twelve round decision to Martinez in April. They held a rematch in September as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Andre Berto undercard in Las Vegas. They fought to a controversial twelve round split draw. Many felt Salido had done enough to gain the victory. Both contests were action-packed encounters.

The teams for Salido and Martinez are negotiating a deal for a third bout in early 2016.

The sanctioning body has ordered the winner of that bout, if it happens, to face Berchelt next. The 23-year-old Mexican contender won his last six bouts, all by knockout, after suffering an upset knockout loss, in one round, to Colombia Luis Flores in 2013.
