WBC super featherweight champion Miguel "El Alacrán" Berchelt (31-1) will make the first defense of his title on July 15th at The Forum in Inglewood, CA against former champion Takeshita Miura (31-3-2). The fight will be televised by HBO in the United States.

Both fighters last fought in January when Berchelt stopped Francisco Vargas to capture the title and Miura knocked out Miguel Roman late in a very exciting fight.

Vargas had previously won the title when he got off the canvas to stop Miura in most boxing outlet's 2015 Fight of the Year. Berchelt thinks Miura will be extremely motivated to get his title back.

"I believe that Miura is a great fighter," Berchelt told BoxingScene.com. "The belt that I have was his and I think that he will want to get it back but this belt now has another owner and that owner is me. I am ready to defend what is mine and I will do whatever it takes to beat Miura."

The fight will headline a triple header that will also feature Jezreel Corrales defending his WBA super featherweight title against Robinson Castellanos and top light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr. battling fellow contender Sullivan Barrera.

Berchelt is very excited to be in the main event of one of the deepest cards from top to bottom of the year.

He promises that whenever he sets foot in the ring, the fans will get their monies worth.

"This is a great card with great fighters. There aren't a lot of cards like this where you have great champions and rising prospects. I think that these are the types of events that the boxing fans have been asking for and for my part I promise to put on a great show for the fans. I think that is the least that I could do for the people who buy a ticket to watch El Alacrán," said Berchelt.

There has been a lot of speculation that the winner of the Berchelt-Miura fight will face the winner of the Corrales-Castellanos showdown in an unification bout. When asked about his thoughts on the potential matchup, Berchelt refused to look ahead.

"The truth is I haven't thought about it. I go step by step and I can't think about the future until after July 15th. I have too much respect for the rival that I am facing and the only thing I have in my head right now is beating Miura," Berchelt explained.
