MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Jerry Belmontes shocked previously undefeated Will Tomlinson, by outworking him over ten rounds to win a lopsided unanimous decision in a junior lightweight contest. Tomlinson had just signed a promotional contract and falls to 21-1-1, 12KOs - and Belmontes rises to 19-3, 5KOs. The scores were 99-91, 98-92, 98-92.

In a super featherweight clash, undefeated Francisco Vargas (19-0-1, 13KOs) had a tough test from Abner Cotto (17-2, 8KOs) over ten rounds, to win a unanimous decision. The scores were 96-94, 97-93, 97-93. Vargas outworked Cotto in many of the rounds and also outlanded him, but Cotto hung in there and made things interesting by firing back in spots.

Olympian Joseph Diaz Jr. (9-0, 7KOs) kept pecking away at Jiovany Fuentes (5-4-4, 4KOs), round after round, until finally stopping him in the fifth.

Junior welterweight prospect Keandre Gibson (9-0-1, 4KOs) stopped a game Antonio Wong (11-8-1, 6KOs) of round four. Wong went down from a series of punches and the referee seemed to wave things off before Wong touched down.

Light heavyweight prospect Steve Lovett (8-0, 6KOs) scored a second round stoppage over Francisco Molina (2-3, 2KOs).
