Tony Bellew will get the chance to fight for the world title at Goodison Park.

The Liverpool cruiserweight (26-2-1, 16 KOs) has a fight with Ilunga Makabu for the vacant WBC cruiserweight crown locked in for the summer.

Bellew, the 33-year-old former European ruler, is now expected to face the South Africa-based knockout artist (19-1, 18 KOs) at the home of his beloved Everton Football Club.

The news of the clash being at the football stadium comes after an image emerged that shows the application for the variation of a premises licence by Liverpool City Council, which was published on April 8, 2016.

Bellew-Makabu was originally being eyed by promoters Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport for June 4, but the agreement –– which is on display on the railings outside the stadium –– states that the licence has been granted for “a date in May, 2016” and in particular May 29.

The clash, coupled with an undercard led by Sean Dodd in a title fight, will be screened exclusively live on Sky Sports.

Since learning of the news and seeing the image, Boxing Scene has reached out to Hearn for comment and is awaiting response.
