Former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew is still backing Oleksandr Usyk to become undisputed in the heavyweight division.

In the final fight of his career, Bellew was knocked out by Usyk in 2019.

Last Saturday night in Poland, Usyk retained the WBO, IBO, IBF, WBA titles with a ninth round knockout of Daniel Dubois.

Usyk has now set his sights on a full division unification with WBC world champion Tyson Fury.

Despite the appearance of being a few steps beneath his best against Dubois, Bellew is still confident in Usyk's ability to overcome Fury.

“I think he just wants that unification fight now. He wants that WBC title and to unify the heavyweight division and then I think he’ll just want to walk away. I don’t think we’ll see him again. I just think he’ll want to ride off into the sunset and so he should. He deserves to. He’s been absolutely amazing. He’s almost done it all so there will be nowhere left to go if he beats Tyson Fury which he is capable of doing," Bellew told Safe Betting Sites.

Usyk already made history by being the first boxer to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion in the four-belt era.

If Usyk is indeed capable of becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt, Bellew believes the Ukrainian will be go down as of the best fighters in the history of the heavyweight division.

"If he does {beat Tyson Fury} then he will definitely go down as one of the greats. You can’t call him the greatest of all time but he is definitely in the conversation,” Bellew said.

As far his immediate future, Usyk may be forced to make a mandatory defense against the IBF's top man, Filip Hrgovic.
