Alycia Baumgardner intends to parlay the biggest victory of her career — and perhaps the sweetest one — into a shot at becoming the undisputed champion of her division

The Michigan native edged Mikaela Mayer to win the WBC, WBO, IBF, and IBO junior lightweight titles Saturday at the O2 in London. Two judges scored it for Baumgardner 96-95, while one had it for Mayer by 97-93. The highly regarded match-up followed months of heated trashtalking between the two fighters; during fight week face-offs, they had to be separated from each other several times.

Baumgardner’s win further solidifies the belts in the 130-pound division, meaning the only one left is the one that belongs to South Korea’s Hyun-Mi Choi. Going into the fight, Baumgardner held the WBC and IBO belts, while Mayer had the IBF and WBO versions.

Asked afterward if she would consider giving Mayer a rematch, Baumgardner made it clear her immediate goal is to become undisputed champion.

“Nah, that girl ain’t getting no rematch,” Baumgardner said in a post-fight interview with Sky, which broadcasted the fight in the UK. “I’m going after Choi like I said. Undisputed, it’s what I claim, what I’m gonna do. Thank you to the UK, London we did it!”

Baumgardner was virtually unknown a few fights ago. The 28-year-old made a name for herself, in 2021, when she upset then titlist Terri Harper with a one-punch knockout.

Now, she has four belts to her name.

“Listen, listen, listen, listen,” Baumgardner said. “I just want to first thank my Lord Jesus Christ for blessing me for getting me through this moment. I worked my ass off to get here. And like I said before my steps were ordained. I claimed this, I received it, I practiced my speech on what I was going to say.

"And for all the doubters, I told y’all haters. Yes, yes, I know. I know I did that. I did that. Unified champ of the world. I’m thankful, I’m blessed."

Baumgardner (13-1, 7 KOs) believes her “cleaner shots” were the key to her victory over Mayer (17-1, 5 KOs).

“I think I landed the cleaner shots, the harder shots,” Baumgardner said. I think I cut her above the forehead.  So yeah I was the harder puncher. I dug deep."
