The first of back-to-back weekends in Mexico for the 2019 spring season of Boxeo Telemundo features a new venue to the circuit, but which houses an old local rivalry.

Saul “Baby” Juarez and Mario Andrade both made weight ahead of their junior flyweight regional title fight rematch, which airs live on Friday from Deportivo Trabajadores del Metro in Mexico City, Mexico, with the venue hosting its first-ever Telemundo telecast.

Juarez came in right at the 108-pound limit, one pound heavier than countryman Andrade who checked in at 107 pounds.

The pair of Mexico City-based ring veterans fought to a 10-round draw last July in a different part of town, but which also aired live on this platform. Juarez (24-9-2, 13KOs) had just rebounded from a discouraging four-fight losing streak with a knockout win over Gilberto Parra last March, but struggled versus Andrade in settling for the stalemate.

Despite not leaving with a win, Juarez was afforded a second career title shot, coming up well short in a 12-round loss to unbeaten 108-pound king Ken Shiro last December in Japan. The 28-year old also dropped a decision on the road in a hard-fought Aug. ‘16 12-round loss to unbeaten strawweight titlist Wanheng Menayothin (now 52-0) in Thailand.

Last year’s 10-round draw with Juarez currently remains the highlight of the journeyman career of Andrade (14-7-6, 4KOs), although he arguably comes in as the hotter of the two boxers. The scrappy 30-year old has won seven of his last nine starts—the lone blemishes coming in the aforementioned stalemate as well as a technical decision loss to unbeaten Junto Nakatani last April in Japan.

Andrade enters Friday’s rematch on the heels of a confidence-restoring 7th round knockout last November in a club show in Tultepec, Mexico.

Also on the card, former strawweight contender Julian Yedras (24-4, 13KOs) hopes to rediscover his groove as he faces late replacement Giovanni Garcia in a six-round flyweight bout. Yedras—who has lost three straight—weighed bang on the 112-pound flyweight limit, while Garcia—who replaces Alejandro Villasenor—tipped the scales at 111 pounds.
