Axel Aragon Vega still has aspirations of winning a junior flyweight title.

The Gen-Z contender has landed in the perfect position to send a message to at least one stated target.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Mexico City’s Vega will face Venezuela’s unbeaten Angelino 'Huracan' Cordova on the next ProBox TV card scheduled for June 24 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

Vega was in line to become the sport’s youngest and shortest active titlist as he was competitive through four rounds versus unbeaten WBA junior flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi last March in Dallas. The fight ended in an instant in round five, when Vega landed a right hand before turning away and wincing in pain which prompted an unfortunate injury stoppage.

The 4’9 ½”, 22-year-old—aptly nicknamed 'El Mini'—also previously came short in a narrow technical decision loss to then-WBO strawweight titlist Wilfredo ‘Bimbito’ Mendez in their October 2019 rematch. Vega rebounded from the loss to Kyoguchi with a ten-round decision win over countryman Armando Torres on a Boxeo Telemundo show last October in Mexico City.

Cordova will fight outside of his native Venezuela for the first time in his career. The 26 year old from Ciudad Bolivar has won his last four in a row by knockout, the last coming in a 31-second blitzing of Gregory Vargas last February in Caracas. Cordova has yet to face anyone with a winning record through five years as a pro.

Vega-Cordova will serve as the co-feature to the already announced WBO junior flyweight title fight between defending champ Jonathan ‘Bomba’ Gonzalez (25-3-1, 14KOs) of Caguas, Puerto Rico and Philippines’ Mark Anthony ‘Baby Boy’ Barriga (11-1, 2KOs). The winner of the co-feature will claim a WBO regional title, which has traditionally led to a shot at the main WBO title especially at this weight.
