BoxingScene.com caught up with Chris Avalos (22-2) shortly after his unanimous decision victory over Drian Francisco at the Texas Station Gambling Hall and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.  The fight served as the main event of this week's installment of ESPN Friday Night Fights. Francisco started off fast winning the early rounds with his speed and jab before Avalos adjusted and took over the fight by applying pressure and wearing his opponent down.

"My performance was good.  I liked it.  The first couple of rounds I came out and I was feeling him, seeing what he had," Avalos stated.  "He wasn't strong at all. He was catching me with the overhand right looping it and he was catching me with a couple uppercuts but I noticed that in the middle of the fight and the last couple of rounds, when I started pressuring him he was shutting down.  I told myself that I am going to pressure him a lot more and let my hands go and that is what I did," Avalos stated.

The 23-year-old said that he hopes to be back in the ring soon and wants his next trip inside of the squared circle to be for a title fight.  One fight that he really wants is a rematch against IBF super bantamweight champion Jonathan Romero.  Avalos lost a split decision to Romero in their ShoBox December, 2011 fight that many observers felt he deserved to win.

"I will fight whoever my manager puts in front of me, hopefully (the next fight is) for a world title.  You got Romero but I know he is scared. He don't want none.  I don't care who it is.  If it is him or whoever they want," Avalos stated.

The Lancaster, CA native said that he wasn't going to call out any names but couldn't resist taking another shot at his rival.  Avalos claimed that Romero told his manager that the only way he would give him a rematch is if the IBF orders it.  Romero will instead face Kiko Martinez on August 17th in a HBO televised fight.  He said that if he is given a rematch he won't let it get to the scorecards.

"I am not going to throw any names out there.  I already threw one because he is a punk ass and he don't want to fight.  I know he don't want to fight me.  I don't care who it is.  I am ready to fight anyone.  Honestly I was in the running to fight him (in August) but he told my manager that he ain't going to fight me unless it's mandatory so he is running. We are going to see him pretty soon and when we do see him I am going to knock his ass out because he knows he lost.  Everybody knows he lost that fight and we are going to do it again but it is going to be on record this time," Avalos told BoxingScene.com.
