Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has double-downed that he fully supports the position of Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, who refused to give Gennady Golovkin a trilogy fight.

Canelo and Golovkin fought to controversial twelve round split draw in September 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A year later, Canelo won a twelve round majority decision over Golovkin, to capture the WBC, WBA middleweight titles.

Since the rematch, both boxers have signed exclusive multi-fight deals with streaming service DAZN.

Behind the scenes, DAZN has been trying their best to make a trilogy fight between the two middleweight rivals. Golovkin is on board and ready to go, Canelo has absolutely no interest, for the moment.

Last year, when Canelo tested positive for traces of the banned substance clenbuterol, Golovkin went on a verbal warpath.

Golovkin accused Canelo of using performance enhancing drugs and also claimed to have possessed photographic evidence of needle marks on Canelo's body.

Arum has long believed that Golovkin crossed the line with his statements.

And because of that, Arum - if he was promoting Canelo - would back the fighter's decision to reject a third bout.

"If I was Canelo I would never fight Triple G.... after what Triple G said about him... calling him a cheat, calling him horrible stuff. Mexicans don't take that crap. Why should Canelo ever give Golovkin the opportunity to get in the ring with him? Golovkin does not deserve it. Golovkin can stew in his own bitterness," Arum told BoxingScene.com.

Canelo appears to be far more interested in moving up by two full weight divisions to challenge WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on November 2.

Arum says there is no dispute that Canelo is the biggest draw in the entire sport.

"I don't know what's the face of boxing. Certainly Canelo isn't as skilled as Crawford or Lomachenko. That being said, there is no question that he's the biggest draw in boxing. If that makes him the face of boxing, then he's the face of boxing. There is no dispute that the biggest draw in the sport right now is Canelo Alvarez," Arum said.
