The unbeaten run of Indian star Vijender Singh came to an end on Friday night after he was stopped by Russia's Artysh Lopsan (5-1-1, 3 KOs) in the main event of 'Battle on Ship' in Panaji.

Singh, a bronze medal winner in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and who had turned professional in 2015, entered the bout with a 12-0 record.

A few years ago, Signh's had signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank and made his United States debut in 2019. He also worked under Frank Warren and made his pro debut in the UK.

The 35-year-old boxer has not been very active in recent years, with no fights in 2018 and 2020.

Prior to tasting his first career defeat, he last fought in November of 2019.

In the opening round, Vijender was cautious in his approach as the Russian outplayed the Haryana boxer and used his height to get the advantage.

The Russian, was outpunching Singh on the rooftop of the 'Majestic Pride Casino' ship on the waters of the Mandovi River, with a very pro-Singh crowd suffering heartbreak.

As the fight played out, Singh appeared to be gassed after a few rounds. He was continuously tagged with punches until the referee, after one minute and nine seconds into the fifth round, declared Lopsan the winner by knockout.

In the co-feature, seasoned boxer Neeraj Goyat defeated Sandeep Kumar in the welterweight division by a knockout.

In the other fights on the card, Chennai's Sabari J out-punched Amey Kalambe to win a six round decision, 60-54, in the lightweight division.
