Former junior flyweight champion Ulises "Archie" Solis has now taken his legal battle with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to the United States. Solis hired attorney W. Stephen Lorenzo, based in Miami, and the lawyer filed a lawsuit on behalf of Solis in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. Solis is suing for injuries and financial damages stemming from a 2011 altercation with Alvarez.

As BoxingScene.com heavily documented, Solis alleges that Canelo attacked him on October 25, 2011 on the street in Guadalajara. The details have never fully been discussed, but Solis claims that Canelo confronted him with allegations that Solis was dating his ex-girlfriend. Solis denies that he was dating Canelo's ex.

During the attack, Solis suffered a broken jaw and lost several teeth. The injuries placed Solis on the shelf for a long time and he required multiple surgeries on his jaw.

Solis has tried to have Canelo arrested and jailed over the attack, but claims the local authorities in Mexico have refused to do so because of Canelo's superstar status. Canelo has always denied the attack, telling reporters that Solis was attacked by his brother.

The legal papers were filed against Canelo in the United States because Solis' attorney states the Mexican star has a legal address in California.

"Back [in Mexico] we've seen that there is no law and no justice. At the same time, we've seen that Floyd Mayweather Jr. went to jail for beating his wife. The best pound for pound fighter, the best boxer of the moment went to jail. That shows the U.S. law is more fair and more equal with any person who has committed a crime," said Solis.

After the attack, Solis was unable to return to action until November 2012. He also fought in March of this year and was knocked out in two rounds by Edgar Sosa. Canelo defends his WBC/WBA junior middleweight titles on September 14th against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
