San Diego based Jr. Welterweight Antonio “Relentless” Orozco (8-0, 5 KO’s) made some waves after his impressive unanimous decision win over tough veteran Humberto Tapia on The Telefutura Network. The twenty two year old answered some questions regarding his career and future goals.

Q. You scored a very good win over Humberto Tapia on August 26 at Club Nokia. What do you remember about that fight?

A. During the first two rounds I felt pressure and some nerves to be fighting under the bright lights on a Golden Boy Promotions show but everything went as we planned. He was a tough guy but having a strong and composed corner really helped.

Q. Why are you a boxer?

A. I always liked the discipline and structure of the sport.  It’s also a good way to let out my frustrations. It’s like therapy.

Q. What are some of your goals?

A. To be a world champion and to be one of the greatest. I also want to be one of those fighters that can establish himself as a great businessman outside the ring. I’d like to own a mechanic shop for diesels some day. I really like working on cars and trucks.

Q. What motivates you inside the ring?

A. I have a lot to prove to myself and that drives me. Luckily, the people around me are incredibly supportive. From my family to my trainers Carlos Barragan Jr. and Sr. They all want me to succeed and be somebody. I also want to live up to the high expectations that everyone has of me.

Q. What’s next for you?

A. I’m still young and not in a rush. Right now I’m resting and just waiting to get the word from my manager Frank Espinoza who handles my business.  He obviously does a great job bringing his fighters up and I trust his judgment.  I’ll fight anyone he puts in front of me. Eventually we’ll make a big statement when the time is right.

Q. Which fighters do you admire?

A. I’m a real fan of Israel Vazquez and The Marquez brothers (Juan Manuel and Rafael).  I’m also a fan of Oscar De La Hoya because he’s done so much outside the ring as a businessman. I really look up to those fighters.

Q. What message would you like to give to boxing fans?

A. I would tell them to keep on following me. The fight on August 26 was only the beginning. My intentions are to get better and to impress people with my style and hopefully to get more fans on my side. The only promises I can make to the fans is that they’ll always get a great show from me and that they’ll always get my best.
