Current Irish Super Middleweight Champ Anthony ‘The Pride’ Fitzgerald has sensationally called out current Irish Middleweight Champion Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan. In front of the cameras and reporters in Cork, Sat 26th Fitzy confronted Spike and asked simply ‘why won’t you fight me?’ ‘Without hesitation O’Sullivan said he would but many present in Cork still think Spike is running scared.

O’Sullivan who claimed the title in April against Ciaran Healy has said if he will accept the challenge and hopes are high amongst boxing fans that O’Sullivan will not shy from the challenge.

‘This is exactly what the middleweight division needs in this country, here you have two top middleweights who are not afraid of each other- the fight makes sense so we’ll make it happen’ claimed a Dolphil spokesman last night…Dolphil’s philosophy is simple - bring the best boxers in Ireland to fight fans, and that is what we will continue to do’.

Some fighters in this country have been blamed for the stale period boxing has gone through in the past, over cautiousness and not taking big fights has led to dull fights time and time again. Dolphil’s three champions have proved to fight fans around Ireland exactly what Dolphil epitomize. Time and time again they have put their records on the line to give fans what they want and Anthony Fitzgerald is no exception. ‘Anto’ was in attendance on Saturday night in the Neptune Sports Arena has been longing for the Middleweight crown for some time and now thinks the time is right for the fight to happen. ‘If Gary thinks he can hold onto that belt without defending it he has another thing coming, I’ll fight him in Cork, Belfast or Dublin, name the place… I know I am the best middleweight in the country’.

Another boxer who is not shying away from challenges is Dolphil’s John Waldron. Just two weeks ago irish-boxing.com writer Leonard Gunning reported how Michael Sweeney felt ‘frozen out’. ‘The Warrior’, when asked what he thought about Sweeney’s comments last week stated: ‘I am the light heavyweight champion; I have never avoided anyone in a fight amateur or professional… and I am definitely not avoiding Michael Sweeney. I am the number one rated light heavyweight in Ireland and when this fight comes off I will still be the number one. Ill do my talking in the ring where it counts.

Dolphil have stated that this fight will happen; it’s only a matter of when. ‘Waldron v Sweeney is a fight the fans want to see, and it’s another test for John on his road to European glory, he’ll beat Sweeney but what a cracking fight it’ll be.

Meanwhile If Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan accepts the challenge, the fight will go ahead Sat Aug 7th Citywest Hotel, Dublin. Tickets online at www.ticketgroup.ie
