On March 16th, light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (20-2, 11 KOs) will face two-time world champion Byron “Gator” Mitchell (29-9-1, 22 KOs) in the main event of Windy City Fight Night 22 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The scheduled ten-round bout will be contested for the vacant USBO Light Heavyweight Title.

A native of Warsaw, Poland, 24 year-old Fonfara is currently ranked #7 by the World Boxing Organization. In his most recent bout on December 16th of 2011, Fonfara scored a third-round knockout over Phil Williams. The victory marked Fonfara’s eighth consecutive knockout.

Next, Fonfara is ready to grab another big victory in the windy city as he looks to eventually get a shot at the world championship.

“I feel great,” said Fonfara. “This fight is a big step for my future. I want to show people that I can handle an experienced opponent like Mitchell. If I win this fight, maybe I can box for the world title. This will be a good fight for me.”

“I’m focusing on this fight first, but I do think about becoming the world champion. Maybe I can get a title shot at the end of this year, or early next year.”

“I want tough fights. I won’t say who, but I can fight anyone. I’ll fight Bernard Hopkins, Jean Pascal, Nathan Cleverly, Beibut Shumenov, or any of those guys. I want to punch with the very best. I’m boxing to become the champion of the world. Whoever has a title, I want to fight him.”

Currently riding a streak of eight consecutive knockout victories, Fonfara mentioned that he does not look for the knockout, and he only plans on strictly boxing.

“The knockouts just happen,” said Fonfara. “I never think about the big shot or going for the knock out. I just think about boxing because it’s my job to box. I want to just box, but I want to try and make a good fight.”

As a confident fighter quickly climbing the rankings, Fonfara still feels the utmost gratitude for his fans and supporters worldwide.

“I want to thank all my fans in Chicago, in Poland, and all over the world for supporting me. I will not disappoint my fans, and I will win this fight.”
