Mandalay Bay, LAS VEGAS, NV - BoxingScene.com and a small group of reporters caught up with the recently retired Andre Ward after he finished his HBO broadcast duties for the televised tripleheader featuring Orlando Salido vs. Mickey Roman.

One of the topics discussed was Vasyl Lomachenko's dominant stoppage victory over Guillermo Rigondeaux in New York.  Lomachenko dominated Rigondeaux, who had moved up two weight classes to make the fight, and forced him to quit after the sixth round.  Rigondeaux didn't answer the bell for the seventh round, citing an injury to his left hand.

"I didn't expect Rigondeaux to quit. I didn't expect that at all. I think that they got him at the right time with the age (37) and the weight but that goes with the territory. It kind of is what it is. It is not Lomachenko's fault so I don't want to marginalize his win. He did what he had to do and I don't think anybody expected Rigondeaux to quit," Ward told BoxingScene.com.

As for who in the lighter weight classes could present a challenge for Lomachenko, Ward agreed that Mikey Garcia is probably the fighter with the best chance at giving the Ukrainian a run for his money.

"Mikey is a beast. That is a super fight in my opinion," Ward stated.

The former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion believes that if the fight were to come to fruition that both men would have an equal chance at coming out with the victory.  He said that he wouldn't lean towards either boxer.

"It is tough to say. I am not really big on picking winners unless I know. Super fights and big fights that are 50-50 - they are just that. You gotta let it play out because I got an argument for Mikey and I got an argument for Lomachenko," explained Ward.
