American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas - In a battle of undefeated contenders, Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13KOs) survived an early knockdown to outbox previously unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (33-1-1, 21KOs), with a twelve round split decision, to capture the vacant WBO junior middleweight title. The scores were 115-112 for Vanes, 114-113 for Andrade and 117-110 for Andrade. The score of 115-112 for Vanes was criminal in nature.

Andrade was dominating the first round, but he got caught and dropped in the final thirty seconds. He appeared fine upon rising and closed the round out. Andrade buzzed Vanes early in the second, and the left side of Vanes' face was swelling up. Andrade was outboxing Vanes as the rounds played out.

Andrade had a huge sixth, where he hurt Vanes and then landed a wide variety of punches on him. Andrade's boxing, and his work rate, continued to control the action until the end of the fight.
