Former world champion Amir Khan (32-4, 20 KOs) is aiming for a very impressive outing on September 8th in Birmingham, when the Bolton star faces Samuel Vargas.

He hopes the victory will allow him to close out the year with a major scrap against Manny Pacquiao or Kell Brook.

Khan returned to action back in April - after snapping layoff of nearly two years, when he suffered a brutal knockout at the hands of Canelo Alvarez.

His long awaited return did not last too long, as he knocked out Phil Lo Greco in Liverpool in 39 seconds.

Khan is intending to remain at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds, where he plans to fight either Pacquiao or Brook.

Khan's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has already held discussions with Pacquiao's team. And Hearn also promotes Brook, who wants to face Khan as soon as possible.

“I want those big fights again and they will happen, but first I have to put in a performance next Saturday against Vargas and show what I’m still about. I have to make sure I win and then we can look at a big fight next," Khan said to The Bolton News.

“Kell Brook has said he would fight me at 147lb or Manny Pacquiao is out there and both are fights I know at my best I can win. But Vargas is my main focus for now.”

Against Canelo, Khan jumped to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge for the WBC middleweight crown.

He saw that rise in weight as a big mistake.

“I think 147 is my natural weight and I am better at this weight. After three or four weeks after beating Lo Greco I was back in camp with Joe and it has gone really well with him over in LA," Khan said.

“We have had some tough sparring and he has got me running every day but I feel as fit now at 31 as I was at 26 or 27 – I feel I’m in my prime. I am more than ready for Vargas.”
