Save Mart Arena, Fresno - Amir Imam (21-1, 18 KOs) stopped Johnny Garcia (19-6-1) in four rounds.

Imam dominated the fight and dropped Garcia in the fourth round. The referee felt Garcia had taken too much damage during the four rounds and stopped the fight before the start of the fight.

This was Imam's third win and third stoppage in a row, since suffering an upset stoppage loss to Adrian Granados in November 2015. The unexpected loss was a huge setback, because at the time of that loss Imam was the WBC's mandatory challenger to then champion Viktor Postol.

But now Imam is back in the world title hunt.

At their most recent annual convention, the World Boxing Council ordered Imam and Jose Ramirez to face each other for the vacant WBC junior welterweight world title. The belt is being vacated because champion Terence Crawford is moving up in weight to 147 pounds.

Later tonight on the same card, Ramirez will face fellow undefeated Mike Reed. Should Ramirez win, Imam indicates that their fight will take place on an ESPN televised date in February.

In yet another upset, Evan Torres (8-5, 5 KOs) won a four round split decision over previously undefeated Quilisto Madera (7-1, 4 KOs). The fight was all action from start to finish and Madera appeared to get caught off guard by the brawling nature of Torres.

The scores were 39-37, 39-37 for Madera and 39-37 for Torres.

An upset took place in the first fight of the evening, as Fernando Fuentes (14-7-1, 4 KOs) scored a fifth round knockdown and won a six round decision over previously undefeated super bantamweight prospect Vislan Dalkhaev (9-1, 2 KOs).
