Amilcar Vidal continues his assault on unbeaten opposition.

The latest victim came in the form of San Antonio’s Edward Jeramie Ortiz, who was overwhelmed inside of two rounds in their FS1 headliner Saturday evening from a crowdless Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Vidal unloaded with both hands, overwhelming a near-defenseless Ortiz and forcing referee Eddie Hernandez Sr. to intervene at 1:58 of round two.

Ortiz sought to work his jab in the opening round, the self-described most effective weapon of the previously unbeaten middleweight. It barely caught the attention of Uruguay’s Vidal, who bore a look in his eye that suggested an early night was in store. That confidence was well warranted, as Vidal was facing his fourth unbeaten foe within his past six fights. The previous three fell in the first round, though Ortiz managed to buck that trend.

It merely served as a participation trophy for the 25-year old, who felt the power of Vidal in round two.

A clean right hand by Vidal jumpstarted the rally, although it was simply a swarm of punches which had Ortiz in trouble. Referee Eddie Hernandez Sr. did his best to allow Ortiz to punch his way out of trouble, only for return fire to never come.

Instead, it was Vidal who connected with a barrage of left hooks and looping right hands along the ropes. Ortiz was spent to the point of being unable to defend himself, thus forcing the stoppage.

Vidal’s dominance was well reflected in Compubox stats, landing 32-of-72 punches (44%), compared to 7-of-62 (11%) for Ortiz.

The win advances Vidal’s record to 12-0 (11KOs). The Sampson Lewkowicz-promoted middleweight prospect has now scored all 11 career knockouts inside of two rounds.

Ortiz suffers his first defeat, falling to 11-1-2 (4KOs). It comes just three months after having outlasted Antonio Todd in a points win this past August on FS1 from nearby Microsoft Theater.
