The sequel to the best fight of the past year is no longer in play for its targeted.

An undisclosed injury suffered by Amanda Serrano has forced a postponement of her anticipated rematch with Katie Taylor. The two were due to meet May 20 in Dublin, Ireland, likely at 3Arena but now with those plans—at best—on hold.

"Due to an injury sustained by Amanda Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II bout on May 20 in Dublin will not go ahead as planned," Matchroom Boxing announced in a brief statement. "The teams are in discussions about finding a revised date for the bout. Further details will follow in due course."

Further details were not revealed. An inquiry to Serrano's team placed by BoxingScene.com was not immediately returned as this goes to publication.

It remains unclear if Taylor (22-0, 6KOs) will move off the date altogether or seek a replacement for what would be her fifteenth overall defense of at least one lightweight title and eighth as undisputed champion. The rematch with Brooklyn's Serrano (44-2-1, 30KOs) would have marked the first pro fight in Ireland for the legendary 36-year-old figure from Bray, who has remained one of the nation's most beloved figures.

Taylor barely edged Serrano via split decision in their unforgettable ten-round battle last April 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The bout was the second straight at lightweight for Serrano, by far Puerto Rico's most established active boxer who has won titles in a record seven weight divisions.

A return to featherweight—Serrano's most optimal weight—has since come for the 34-year-old Boricua southpaw who has dethroned reigning titlists in back-to-back fights.

Serrano traveled to jolly old England, where she defended her WBC and WBO featherweight titles while ending the IBF reign of unbeaten Sarah Mahfoud last September in Manchester. The win was followed the historic ten-round win over Mexico City's Erika Cruz on February 4 at MSG's Hulu Theater. Serrano claimed Cruz's WBA title to become Puerto Rico's first-ever undisputed champion in the three- or four-belt era.

The win was immediately followed by a pre-recorded package to promote the rematch with Taylor, who joined Serrano in the ring. A venue was never set, though the famed Croke Park was already ruled out by that point due to the exceedingly high cost for additional security necessary to run such an event.
