BoxingScene.com reported last week that Ramon Alvarez was open to the idea of a rematch with Omar Chavez - but only if the fight would take place in a featured position on the anticipated May 6th event, which is going to feature the main event battle between their brothers - Ramon's younger bother Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Omar's older brother Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Alvarez (24-5-2, 16 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Chavez in September of 2014. Since then, Chavez (35-3-1, 23 KOs) has won three fights in a row. Alvarez picked up a win last December after suffering a decision loss to former world champion Antonio Margarito in August.

Zanfer Promotions, who work with both boxers, were looking to stage the rematch on March 11th as part of their upcoming fight schedule.

Ramon explained last week that doesn't have much interest in staging that rematch, but he would have interest in fighting Chavez again as part of  the HBO Pay-Per-View event in May.

"The only way that I would rematch Omar is in that role... if not, I do not see the sense of that. Obviously if it was in that role [on the pay-per-view] it would be good for my career, and it would also suit him," Alvarez told ESPN Deportes last week.

"I think that it suits him like it does me. Blood against blood, a fight for pride, a fight between brothers, I feel that there has never been an event in history where two strong surnames collided on the same night. Omar would enter that fight with a lot of pride, a lot of hunger, the hunger that one needs to prepare very well - because obviously he's going to want the rematch badly, because I made him look bad, like a beginner."

But Alvarez received some bad news after speaking with Canelo. Both Chavez Jr. and his adviser Al Haymon are not interested in having that fight on the card to avoid potential distractions where Chavez Jr. would worry about his younger brother's fight.

"I asked my brother today how the negotiations were going, and he told me that neither Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. nor his manager (Al Haymon) wants any distractions or concerns leading up to the fight [with Canelo], so the fight will not be there [on the May 6th event]. And as I had said, if it's not [on May 6] it's not likely to take place on another date, I'm not interested," said Alvarez.
