INGLEWOOD, CALIF. --- Mike Alvarado believes he should have been given credit for a second knockdown in the ninth round and he believes he did enough to earn the decision.

The judges didn't agree, scoring the fight for Juan Manuel Marquez, 117-109, 117-109, 119-108, on Saturday night at The Forum.

"I thought it was a close fight," Alvarado said. "I thought I did enough. I really believe the crowd, during the close rounds, was the difference and swayed the judges his way."

Marquez appeared to control the early rounds and then dropped Alvarado with a right hand in the eighth round. Marquez tried to move in for the finish in the ninth and Alvarado knocked down Marquez with a left hook. Alvarado appeared to score another knockdown in the 10th, but the referee ruled it was not a knockdown.

"I saw his gloves touch the floor," Alvarado said. "The referee stepped in between and he pushed me back. I was going to attack, but the referee pushed me back. So I think the second knockdown was truly a knockdown."
