Junior lightweight contender Albert Bell is on the verge of possibly landing a significant fight later this year.

In the meantime, Bell will continue to build on the momentum from his last fight as he is scheduled to step back inside the ring on April 15. No opponent or specific site has been officially announced.

Bell (20-0, 6 knockouts), who resides in Toledo, Ohio, returned to action on February 26 against former world featherweight title challenger Daulis Prescott in Atlanta, Georgia, winning by knockout at 1:09 of the opening round.

February 26 marked Bell’s first fight after amicably parting ways with Top Rank. His last fight under the Top Rank banner took place on August 14, defeating Julio Cortez of Ecuador over eight one-sided rounds.

Prior to the Prescott fight, there were preliminary discussions for a clash against then-unbeaten Chris Colbert, but nothing concrete ever materialized. Ironically, Colbert would lose by unanimous decision to late-sub Hector Garcia of the Dominican Republic.

Vick Green, Bell’s promoter, is confident a significant fight against a top contender could take place in late 2022 or early next year. That all depends on if any of the world titleholders or contenders are willing to face the six-foot Bell.

“Albert trained for the knockout (against Prescott),” Green told BoxingScene this past Friday. “He’s been working on sitting (down) on his punches and getting guys out of there.

“We are going to keep him active. He’s fighting (at) home April 15 in a guaranteed sell-out. We still have a few offers on the table. Just taking our time, back to the basics, which is me promoting him at home. (That’s) how we started. Unlike most fighters, he can sell out at home and that’s the power in boxing.”

Prescott, who resides in Barranquilla, Colombia, drops to 32-15 (24 KOs). The 36-year-old has now lost 12 of his last 13 bouts.

Also on the card, which took place at the Georgia International Convention Center, super middleweight prospect Money Powell IV improved to 13-1 (8 KOs) by knocking out Colombia’s Fidel Monterrosa Munoz (39-28-1, 31 KOs) at 58 seconds of the second round.

Powell IV, who resides in Fort Mitchell, Alabama, has won his last three bouts since suffering the only loss of his career at the hands of Vaughn Alexander in August 2019.
