Akifumi Shimoda registered his fourth consecutive win with a ninth round stoppage over Hugo Partida on Wednesday evening at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

As has been the case in each of his post-title reign fights, Shimoda was in full control from the opening bell. The flow remained in that direction until it was stopped at 1:14 of round nine.

Shimoda now improves to 27-2-1 (12KO); Partida falls to 17-4-2 (15KO) after having won two straight prior to the bout.

Both fighters weighed 124 lb, a consistent weight for Shimoda in the past year.

The former wild child enjoyed a brief stay as super bantamweight (122 lb.) titlist, scoring an upset win over Ryol Li Lee in Jan. ’11. The reign ended after just six months and in heartbreaking fashion when Rico Ramos rallied from behind to knock him out in seven rounds last July. The bout was Shimoda’s lone stateside appearance, and also his debut on HBO.

Each fight since has taken place above the 122 lb limit and at the Korakuen Hall. The venue has housed all but seven of his career fights, where he has ammaseda record of 20-2-1 (10KO).
