Gimnasio San Juan de la Barrera, Mexico City, Mexico - WBC junior flyweight champion Adrian Hernandez (28-2-1, 17 KOs) suffered an early scare when he was dropped in the first round. He shook the knockdown off and came back with a fury as the fight played out. Japan's Atsushi Kakutani (13-4-1, 6 KOs) was punished and then battered in the fourth round. Hernandez knocked him down three times before the referee waved off the contest.

Also on the card, a shocking result as Jessica Gonzalez (3-1, 0 KOs) boxed her way to an unexpected upset decision over previously undefeated fan favorite Irma Garcia (7-1-1, 1 KO) to capture the WBA bantamweight championship. The fight was close, but two of the judges sided with Gonzalez - giving her cards of 97-94 and 96-94. The third judge had Garcia winning the fight with a score of 96-94.
