Adan Ochoa did not want to leave the outcome in the hands of the judges against Angel Luna.

The featherweight prospect knocked out Angel Luna in the opening round Saturday evening at Cranston Stadium in Cranston, Rhode Island.

With the win, Ochoa, who resides in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey, improves to 12-2, 5 knockouts and won a regional title belt.

Ochoa had not fought since September 5, dropping Edward Vazquez once before losing by unanimous decision in a fight many thought Ochoa did enough to win. Prior to the Vazquez fight, Ochoa had won his previous nine bouts.

Prior to the loss to Ochoa, Luna had won three fights in a row after losing his previous five fights, four of them have come by knockout.

With less than a minute left in the round, Ochoa landed two left hooks to the head. Luna backed up against the ropes, where Ochoa unleashed a combination that sent him through the ropes and onto the outer edge of the ring. Referee Danny Schiavone counted Luna out at 2:22.

Luna, who is originally from the Dominican Republic and now resides in the Bronx, New York, drops to 14-7-1, 7 KOs.

Lightweight Jaime Clampitt (22-5-2, 7 KOs) and Olivia Gerula of Winnipeg, Canada fought to a unanimous decision draw over six rounds. All three judges scored the bout 57-57.

The 44-year-old Clampitt, who is originally from Gravelbourg, Canada and now resides in Warwick, Rhode Island, was fighting for the first time since Dominga Olivo in November 2013. Her most notable fights were a one-sided win over Mia St. John in February 2007 and a knockout loss to Holly Holm in August 2010.

Gerula (18-19-3, 3 KOs) had lost her previous three bouts prior to the draw against Clampitt. The 42-year-old Gerula won the WBC Female junior lightweight title by defeating Jelena Mrdjenovich in April 2009. She would make two successful defenses of the WBC title before losing to Frida Wallberg in November 2010.

In light heavyweight action, Gary Balleto III, the son of former lightweight contender Gary Balleto, defeated William Dunkle of Nampa, Idaho by unanimous decision. Dunkle was making his pro debut.

Scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37 for Balleto III, who resides in Cranston and improves to 2-0, 1 KO.

Welterweight James Perrella of Mansfield, Massachusetts improved to 7-0, 5 KOs by knocking out Agua Prieto, Mexico’s Gael Ibarra (5-4, 4 KOs) at 1:23 of the opening round.

Junior middleweight Victor Reynoso, who is originally from the Dominican Republic and now resides in Providence, Rhode Island, had all he could handle from Martez Jackson (5-5-3, 2 KOs) of Valdosta, Georgia, winning by majority decision.

One judge scored the bout 38-38, while the other two judges scored the bout 40-36 and 39-37 for Reynoso, who goes to 7-0, 5 KOs.

Longtime promoter Jimmy Burchfield promoted the card.
