With the WBO World Heavyweight Title fight between Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz just days away, respected trainer Abel Sanchez is promising all-out action.

The American, who trains Ruiz at his gym in Big Bear, California, discussed Saturday night’s intriguing clash between the two unbeaten fighters.

At a press conference this week, he said: “I think we have two guys that are the future of the Heavyweight division. It’s an evenly-matched fight.

“These two guys are finally going to show us what Heavyweights are actually supposed to fight like, not the wresting that we’ve been getting for the last ten years.”

With 18 knockouts from 21 fights, Parker has displayed immense power whilst Ruiz’s hand speed is one of his best strengths. Both men are yet to taste defeat in a combined 50 professional outings.

“I think this is a tough, tough 12-round fight,” said Sanchez. “They’re going to go at each other. We’re going to have to kind of fight where they’re going to hit each other and hurt each other!”

Much has been made of Ruiz’s dramatic weight loss for the fight, with nearly 15 kilos dropped in training, but Sanchez ensured this has not affected his power.

“We didn’t run a ‘fat farm’, we ran a gym that required him to work hard and lose weight a little bit at a time. In the six weeks he was there, 35 pounds I think is a pretty good number.

“When you’re 290 pounds, you’re slower and your punches are slower. When you lose 30-35 pounds your punches are snappier, you’re faster on your feet and your hands are faster. You definitely don’t lose punching power, I think you become a sharper puncher,” he added.
