Veteran trainer Abel Sanchez is used to winning his big fights.

But that hasn't been the case in 2018. Sanchez's two biggest names, who were both undefeated, have suffered tough losses in the second half of the year.

Back in July in Russia, Murat Gassiev was dominated over twelve rounds by Olekrandr Usyk in a WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA cruiserweight unification. And then two weeks in Las Vegas, Gennady Golovkin lost a twelve round majority decision to Canelo Alvarez in their rematch for the WBA, WBC, IBO middleweight titles.

Sanchez explained that he's not worried about the recent run of losses and detailed why he feels that way.

"Absolutely not. We have a 92% winning average in my gym, Golovkin has the KO ratio of all time, 20 defenses of his title, Gassiev was in a tournament that pitted the best against the best and made the finals. Absolutely not, our success is due to our system. I have two other world champions in my gym also," Sanchez stated during a chat session on Reddit.

He also gave further praise to Canelo for his great performance, by rejecting any talk of Golovkin having an "off-night" in the rematch.

According to Sanchez, everyone expects Golovkin to dominate all of his opponents and that's not always going to happen as the competition gets better.

"If we put Gennady on such a pedestal that we expect for him to dominate everybody the way he dominated earlier in his career, then we're being very demanding of somebody to be the same thing in every fight. These guys are getting better, like when Hagler fought Leonard, or Leonard fought Hearns, or Hagler fought Duran. It's two guys going at each other at the top of the game. Nobody had an off night, and it came to one round, so let's not diss the effort, let's celebrate that they gave us the fight we expected," Sanchez said.
