BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. - Alfredo Angulo won his biggest fight in a decade Saturday night when he pulled off a big upset by defeating Peter Quillin by split decision in a Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 main event.  Angulo was as big as a 30-1 underdog at multiple offshore sports books.

In his corner was world class Abel Sanchez, who is best know for his work with former cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev and former pupils Gennadiy Golovkin and Terry Norris.

Sanchez said that Angulo's dedication to his craft and discipline were big factors in his victory.

"We had him in camp for almost a year and a half and he fought only one time but he was persistent. He stayed in the gym and he worked very hard and he did everything I asked of him. He knew where he stands. He is 36 years old and he knows there aren't that many fights ahead of him so he gave it his all and go the victory," said Sanchez.

As for the game plan itself, Sanchez said that as long as Angulo was competitive early on, he was confident that they would be able to pull out a victory.

"We know that Alfredo is a slow starter. Everyone knows that. If we could stick around in the beginning of it and not get blown out I thought that we could win a decision," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com. "It was all the body work and he landed some good shots to the head but I think the consistent body work weakened his legs at the end."

Sanchez ended our interview with a prediction of the November 2nd Canelo Alvarez-Sergey Kovalev showdown.  The California native believes that Canelo will be too much for him and stop him somewhere in the middle rounds.

"Canelo stops him somewhere between the 7th and 9th round with a good body shot but he is going to work the body until he gets the perfect shot," Sanchez explained.
