Aaron Silva made good on his promise to make a statement in his Golden Boy Promotions debut.

The 25-year-old middleweight prospect briefly moved up to super middleweight, where he claimed a fifth-round knockout of Alan Campa. Silva scored two knockdowns inside the final minute of round five, with the fight halted at 2:34 of that round in their DAZN-aired preliminary bout Saturday evening at Commerce Casino & Hotel in Commerce, California.

Silva took a couple of rounds to settle into his offensive rhythm, on a night where he wanted to measure up to Campa’s previous level of competition. The 30-year-old journeyman from Guaymas, Mexico previously suffered stoppage defeats to Bektemir Melikuziev and former title challengers Jesse Hart and Sergiy Derevyanchenko while going the distance in defeats to unbeaten prospects Erik Bazinyan and D’Mitrius Ballard.

It was mission accomplished for the unbeaten prospect from Monterrey, Mexico, who made every punch count once he was able to find his range. He was aided by an inviting target, as Campa walked straight in while he ignored the body and abandoned his jab early in the fight. Silva sat down on his punches, landing in combination as Campa struggled to keep pace or guard against the incoming.

Campa offered a more competitive effort in round four as he mixed up his attack. Silva continued to take the lead but was not immediately prepared for the left hook and uppercut to the body offered in return by Campa during an entertaining round.

Silva worked his jab in round five, contending with the increased pressure applied by Campa to set up the eventual fight-ending sequence. A right uppercut drove Campa to the ropes, with a follow-up flurry of punches forcing him to the canvas with roughly one minute to go in the round.

Campa bravely beat the count issued by referee Sharon Sands but the end was clearly in sight. Silva was poised in his closing attack, cracking Campa (18-7, 12KOs) with a final left hook to wobble Campa and cause a delayed-reaction knockdown. No count was offered as the fight was immediately brought to a halt.

Silva improved to 12-0 (8KOs) with the win, ending 2022 with two knockout victories in as many fights. His previous appearance was a career-best victory on paper, rallying from an early deficit to stop unbeaten Alexis Espino in the fourth round on the Dmitry Bivol-Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez undercard on May 7 in Las Vegas.

Headlining the show, Guadalajara’s Raul Curiel (11-0, 9KOs) faces fringe welterweight contender Brad Solomon (29-5, 9KOs) of Douglasville, Georgia in a scheduled ten-round bout.
