LAS VEGAS – Aaron Alameda made sure he didn’t leave his fate to the judges this time.

Five months after suffering a debatable defeat to Angelo Leo, Mexico’s Alameda stopped countryman Angel Contreras after four rounds Saturday night at Park MGM’s Dolby Live. A ringside physician instructed referee Celestino Ruiz to stop their 10-round featherweight fight because Contreras’ left eye essentially was swollen shut.

Contreras connected with his fair share of punches in their bout, but Alameda’s shots had a more damaging effect on him. Monterrey’s Contreras (11-5-2, 6 KOs) lost by technical knockout for the second time in his five-year pro career.

The 28-year-old Alameda, meanwhile, responded positively to a 10-round, majority-decision defeat to Leo on June 19 at Toyota Center in Houston. Leo, a former WBO junior featherweight champion, defeated Alameda (26-2, 14 KOs) on two scorecards – 98-92 and 96-94 – and a third judge scored their bout a draw, 95-95.

Before Saturday night, the southpaw from Nogales had lost back-to-back decisions to Leo (21-1, 9 KOs) and former WBC super bantamweight champ Luis Nery. Mexico’s Nery (31-1, 24 KOs) out-pointed Alameda unanimously in a competitive 12-round, 122-pound championship match 14 months ago at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
