81st Annual Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament- 340 Boxers & Recent Record Attendance 3 Nights Down, 9 To Go!

The 2008 Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament is proving that boxing is alive and well...at least in our city! 

In its 81st edition, the 12-night event kicked off this week with 340 amateur boxers competing in the Novice, Senior Novice and Open divisions.  With admission just $10 during this week's preliminary bouts, fans have turned out in recent record numbers and have enjoyed 26-30 bouts per night.

Preliminary bouts continue through this Friday.  Quarter and semi-final bouts are April 2-5 with admission just $15.  Championship bouts will be contested April 17-19.  Tickets are $20, $30 and $50 for VIP Ringside.  For tickets or information: www.ChicagoGoldenGloves.com.

Competition begins nightly at 7:30 pm at St. Andrews, located at 1658 W. Addison, in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood.

Since 1923, the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament has been one of Chicagoland’s great sporting traditions.  Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, three US Olympic heavyweights, Governor Blagojevich, former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan and “The Lord of the Dance,” Michael Flatley, have all won the prestigious title of “Chicago Golden Gloves Champion.”
